Cold water
If you’d rather not mix up and apply chemical solutions, you can always start with cold water. You can use a spray bottle to apply water to the bloodstain, and then either pat dry with a towel, working from the outside of the stain in, or use a wet vac to remove the water.

OxiClean (Vanish)
For this method, you should refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. What you’ll be instructed to do is dissolve the powdered OxiClean into warm water. You’ll then want to apply the solution to the stain. Use enough to completely saturate the stain. Then let it sit for a maximum of five minutes. Finish by blotting it dry with a cloth. This method works on other spots like wine, coffee and pet stains as well.

Salt paste
This is a method that works well on delicate carpet fibers. Take a bowl or cup, and pour in some cool water. Then add 3 tablespoons of salt to it—or enough to create a thin paste. Spread the paste over the affected spot, and let it sit for five or six minutes. Using either a cloth or a paper towel, and making sure not to rub the stain in, blot it dry. Any leftover salt residue can be cleaned with a broom or vacuum, and you can repeat the process if necessary.

Liquid dishwashing detergent
You can fill a small bucket with water and add 1.5 teaspoons of liquid dishwashing detergent. Take a cloth, and completely soak it in the bucket. A white cloth works best because you can see if you’re picking up the stain. Apply the soaked cloth to the stain, and saturate the spot. Now take an old toothbrush, and gently scrub the now-soaked area. Finish by using a wet cloth to blot the affected area, and rinse it clean.
